Marian Murdoch

I was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV and spent my life wandering where my feet would carry me, exploring the world and seeing it with the eyes of an artist. There is no competing with nature's light and I am frequently amazed at how it plays across the skin of mankind. I couldn't imagine spending my photographic career cramped inside a dusty studio with trite fabric backgrounds and metal posing stools. Nature brings out the best in all of us, and it comes across in my photographs, creating an image you will cherish long after the studio images have gone into a drawer.

My work may be purchased at a discount during the Belfair Farmer's Market, Saturdays from May through September at the Theler Center in Belfair. The Market is located at 22871 NE State Route 3, Belfair WA 98528 and is open from 9am - 3pm every Saturday. Additionally, you may purchase my work by contacting me at marianmurdoch@yahoo.com (Please put "Photo Purchase" in the subject title), or you can purchase them online by following the link on the main page.

I've always seen the world in a slightly different way than others. You can sometimes find me lying on my back on a forest trail, shooting my camera skyward, taking a photograph of something others overlook. The world contains so many amazing, exciting small wonders: The mischevious grin of a child who is about to do something crazy, the expression on a dog's face as he contemplates how best to break a rule... It is my goal to capture these tiny moments in time, preserving them forever. Utilizing creative post processing, I sometimes push reality to the edge.

My work has been used in New York to raise money for breast cancer research, for various other charities, has graced The Seattle Aquarium's newsletter, Sky and Telescope Magazine, several ornithological publications, and is collected throughout the United States, Canada, and the UK. Recently, I won First Place/Judge's Choice in the local 2010 photography competition, and the People's Choice award in the same competition last year, with the winning entries included in book form which is on sale at a local establishment.
